Edna Toponce, of Lander, Wyoming, died Tuesday, June 30, surrounded by her family after a two-year struggle with cancer. She was 71 years old. Burial is at Mount Hope Cemetery in Lander.
Edna Toponce was born Feb. 25, 1944, in Heber City, Utah, the daughter of Henry and Fawn Kohler. She was raised in Midway, Utah, with her sisters Joyce Corson of Riverton, Kim Ercanbrack of Payson, Utah, Kaye Davies of Sandy, Utah, Karla Johnson of Kanab, Utah, and Connie Pickett of Midway, Utah. On June 6, 1963, she married Ivan Clair Toponce in the temple in Salt Lake City. She obtained a master's degree in education administration from Brigham Young University in 1979. She then taught for several years at the Fort Washakie School.
She served as the chairman of the board and committee member of the Wyoming Northwest Community Action Program for nearly 20 years. For also served for more than 20 years as a volunteer emergency medical technician and trainer.
She was the owner of Hearth and Homes Furniture and Gifts, a company she started 19 years ago. The store featured Amish furniture, and her family said she loved the Amish people and they loved her. Her family said she was an active member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various leadership and teaching capacities.
Her family said she was known as a savvy business woman and entrepreneur, and she was well loved by her family and the community. They said she desired to help those less fortunate and support and assist them in various capacities. They also said she was a lifelong learner and teacher. Her family said she believed in living life to the fullest, and everyone who knew her thought she was an amazing woman.
She is survived by her husband; children Marinda of West Jordan, Utah, Laura (Rosqvist) of Kaysville, Utah, Nedra of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Edward of Lander, Tamara (Powell) of Summerville, N.C., and Paul of Lander; grandchildren April Buckway, Sterling, Peter and Kyle Rosqvist, and Lindsey, Whitney, Savannah, Emma and Olivia Powell; and great-grandchild Kennedy Powell.

Sad to see another of our classmates pass beyond the veil so early in life. Edna was a dear friend and a joy to work with on our school newspaper, Tiger Talk! Always willing to go above and beyond that which was required. God bless her husband and family! We will miss you Edna!

Edna was always energetic and a fun person to be around. There was always laughter. I am sure she will be missed by many, but also there will be many fond memories of fun and laughter when they think of her. She will be remembered as such by her old high school class mates.
