Phillip Clayton Rasmussen

1944-2019

Phillip Clayton Rasmussen of Springville, Utah, passed away on June 4th, 2019. He was born on June 22, 1944, in Orem, Utah to Parley and Dorothy Rasmussen; the first of 4 children. He graduated from Orem high school class of 1962. He served a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the Andes Peru mission from 1964-1966. He attended BYU and earned a bachelor’s degree in computer science in 1975. He married Marsha Knight August 23rd, 1968 in the Manti Utah temple. He enlisted in the Air Force and was stationed in North Dakota and Taiwan during the Vietnam conflict. He and Marsha became the proud parents of 6 children raising their family in Springville. During his career, he worked for many companies including Eyring, Wordperfect, Powerquest, and Raytheon. He was popular among his coworkers for supplying donuts. He retired in 2015 and served a mission with Marsha at the Provo Missionary Training Center working with the international missionaries from August 2015 to January 2017. He regularly volunteered at the Provo City Center temple from its opening.

Phill was all about adventures. He enjoyed camping and hiking, especially in the national parks. He helped organize recreational soccer for Springville. He was co-president of the Utah Friends of Paleontology for Utah Valley. He volunteered for many activities involving Ham radio, CERT, and TERT. He helped during parades, festivals, and checking on hikers during the summer. His favorite adventures were the ones he took with his grandkids.

He is survived by his wife, Marsha, children: Matt (Colleen) Rasmussen, Jon (Lisa) Rasmussen, Jeremy (Kathy) Rasmussen, Zane (Sara) Rasmussen, Nathan (Sarah) Rasmussen, Heather (Russell) Fawcett. 16 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren. Siblings: Charmain (Doug) Croft, Dale (Shauna) Rasmussen, Alan (Loraine) Rasmussen. He was preceded in death by his parents Parley and Dorothy and granddaughter Sabrina Rasmussen.

A viewing will be at Wheeler Mortuary 211 E 200 S Springville, UT 64663 on Sunday the 9th from 6 — 8 pm. Funeral Services will take place at 11:00 am Monday the 10th at the LDS church 555 Averett Ave, Springville, UT 84663 with a viewing one hour before the service. In lieu of flowers please donate to the American Cancer Society.

Marlena Sims (Meldrum)

It is saddening to see so many of our class mates begin to pass on.  Phil was a good guy and fun in High School.  His obituary show that he influenced many people's lives in positive and good ways.  I am sure his family and friends will miss him terribly, but his influence for good will continue on in so many ways.
