North Logan - Rodger Trent Wentz, 70, died on Monday, Feb. 10, 2014, just three weeks after being diagnosed with cancer. We are so thankful that his suffering is over and that he can be reunited with his mother and father and his Savior, Jesus Christ. 

Trent was born in Provo, Utah, July 23, 1943, the son of Hugh Vernon Wentz and Evelyn Gledhill. He graduated from Orem High in 1962 and received his B.S. in Psychology and Sociology from Brigham Young University in 1969. He earned a master's degree in education from the University of Washington in 1972. Balancing both family responsibilities and full-time work, he completed his PhD at Utah State University in 1986. 

He loved helping others. He was full of compassion and a great listener. His professional training allowed him to help many people. He worked as an administrator and clinician for Bear River Mental Health for 28 years and then for the Health Department until full retirement. He wrote the biweekly advice column "Family Corner" in the Herald Journal from 1978-2007. 

Trent loved life. He loved nature. He worked in the National Parks as a young person and took his family on countless trips to "drink it in!" He gardened and enjoyed watching the earth produce its fruit. Trent loved North Logan and Cache Valley. He loved cheering on the Aggies, eating Aggie ice cream, watching the fireworks each July, and admiring the beauty of this valley and its mountains. Trent loved his children and grandchildren. He read to us, told us stories of his childhood, made us pizza, and played games with us including Monopoly, Backgammon, and Acquire. He lived life passionately and offered us the example of both laughter and wisdom. His words of counsel and encouragement and the passionate way he lived his life have shaped the way we live ours. He is survived by his children, Angela (Matthew Faulconer) of Orem, Utah; Logan (Rachel Laurie) of Syracuse, Utah; Rachel of Orem, Utah; Tyler (Heather Hunt) of Whispering Pines, NC; and 13 grandchildren. Trent loved his wife, Deleyne. They were married in the Manti Temple on Dec. 19, 1970, and had 43 great years together (and we know this will not be the end!) They had many interests in common and chose to spend their time together. They loved to read, to eat out with their friends. and to travel. Dad loved Jackson, Wyoming, and they visited many cities together including San Francisco, Atlanta, New Orleans, Austin, Chicago, Boston, and Philadelphia. 

Of greatest importance to Trent was his abiding conviction in the restored gospel of Jesus Christ. He knew that the atonement of Christ was real and that faith in the Savior could change lives. Trent shared his testimony with his family and those around him. He served a mission to Ireland (1963-1965) and held many Church callings, but his favorite calling was teaching Gospel Doctrine. He feasted upon the words of Christ and shared that love with others.

Our husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend will be greatly missed. We look forward to our reunion with him, with gratitude for the love and mercy of our Heavenly Father.

A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday, February 14th, at the Allen Mortuary of North Logan at 420 E. 1800 North. A viewing will also be held from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 15 at the LDS North Logan 9th Ward Chapel at 1650 E. 2600 N., in North Logan, followed by a funeral service at 12 p.m.
