Dan Goulding

Daniel Freeman Goulding
December 1, 1943 - May 23, 2016

Daniel Freeman Goulding, age 72 and a resident of Sierra Vista, Arizona, passed away on Monday afternoon, May 23, 2016, at Banner University Medical Center in Tucson, Arizona.

Dan was born in National City, California and raised in Orem, Utah until he graduated high school. After marrying his high school sweetheart Dorthy Hawkins, they lived in Concord, California for 40 years prior to retirement when they moved to Sierra Vista, Arizona.

Dan's career started in California as a mechanical drafter. After years of building his reputation as a piping drafter, he struck out on his own to expand his drafting skills into project management over remodels of lab space. Through hard work, he built a reputation for his work in the growing chemical and genetic engineering companies in the San Francisco Bay Area in the 1970's and 1980's. In 1992, he accepted a position with Genentech, where he had worked as a contractor, to manage facilities remodels in their growing company. At the time of his retirement in 2005, he was Associate Director for facilities remodels.

Dan and Dorthy raised two sons while in Concord. Dan spent many hours involved in his son's pursuits, including coaching sports teams, going golfing, helping with Boy Scouts, following marching bands along parade routes, or sitting in the stands cheering.

An avid golfer, Dan spent many enjoyable hours on the golf course with his sons, brother, grandkids, neighbors and total strangers that he met that day. On a trip to Hawaii, in early May, 2016, he shot his last rounds of golf on the Big Island, a favorite vacation spot for he and Dorthy. He posted an 84.

In his retirement, Dan and Dorthy spent much of their time traveling and spending time with their grandchildren. Whenever possible, both activities were attempted simultaneously, including successful road trips across the United States, and trips to Disneyland. Other trips included Hawaii, Utah, a Caribbean cruise, a Panama Canal cruise, among other places.

Daniel is preceded in death by his Father, German Goulding, and Mother, Thora (Willis) Goulding. He is survived by his wife, Dorthy (Hawkins) Goulding, sons James Trevor (Shauna) Goulding and Thomas Wade (Marnie) Goulding, brothers LaRel (Darlene) Goulding and Hal (Kathleen) Goulding, sister Annella Ash, and 9 grandchildren, Gabriel, Kameron, Elisabeth, Kaulin, Karen Alice, Keilani, Korey, Jacob and Samuel.

Funeral services will be Wednesday, June 1, 2016, 11:00 a.m. at Walker Sanderson Funeral Home, 646 East 800 North, Orem. Friends may visit with the family that morning from 9:30 - 10:30 a.m. Interment will be in Orem, Utah.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that you make a donation to the American Cancer Society. - See more at: http://www.walkersanderson.com/obituaries/Daniel-Freeman-Goulding/Sierra-Vista-AZ/1621630#sthash.PdAy34qy.7rr2za4G.dpuf
