Comments:

Sometimes I feel that I should not attend your reunions because I left school and joined the Marine Corps on my 17th birthday. However, I have a lot of memories of you folks and Orem High School.

I'm married to the former Terry Huish. She graduated from BY High class of 66. She was a cheerleader and she is the love of my life.

I spent 13 years in the U.S. Marine Corps and another 13 in the U.S. Army. As a Marine I served as part of the blockade in the 1962 Cuban missile crisis. I served 14 months in Vietnam where on the 24th of July, 1966 on a operation called Hastings I was wounded. On Operation Hastings between the 22nd and the 24th of July 1966 I lost many dear friends. Thirty four KIA'S and over 110 WIA'S, a event that changed my life forever. After we had loaded the last of the bodies of my Marine buddies on helicopters, myself and other brothers made a promise, a promise I took very seriously. That promise was our fallen brothers would not be forgotten. Therefore every chance I get I tell their story. I talk at school assemblies, youth groups, memorial programs, whenever, wherever I can. Most of my time in the Army was spent in recruiting and training reservists. I retired from the military in 1986 after 26 years of service. I then joined the postal service at the Provo post office and retired from there in 2003.

While in the Marine Corp I had the opportunity to visit many places such as: Okinawa, the Philippines, Japan, Hong Kong, Panama, Cuba, Puerto Rico, Jamaica, Hawaii, Guam, Vietnam, and many other places within the United States. I wouldn't recommend anybody quitting school and joining at the young age of 17, but for me it was the right thing to do. I have never regreted it, except maybe for the first few days of recruit training. I finished high school and college while serving in the military.

I currently spend a lot of time volunteering. I'm presently on the board of the Orem Heritage Museum where I spend a considerable amount of my time. I'm there every Tuesday, Thursday afternoon. If you haven't seen the museum, please drop by, and I'll give you your own private tour. I am on the Orem City Heritage Commission where I came in contact with our illustrious former mayor and classmate Jerry Washburn. The commission plans the memorial day and veterans day programs for the city. I am a member of the Veterans of Foreign War Honor Guard where we shoot the rifles, play taps, fold and present the flag to the next of kin at the funerals of fallen veterans. I am extremely patriotic. I love my country and appreciate those who serve, especially our WWII veterans, who we are losing at thousands a day, and the young men serving today. These young men are all volunteers. They are there because they want to serve; they want to give something back to their country at great sacrifice to themselves and their families. We need to remember them daily. I have 2 sons, 1 daughter, and 3 grandsons currently serving. I just lost one of them. My dear son Dustin, My heart is broken, I miss him so much. He served in the Army in Afghanistan. He left behind a Loving Wife, 2 Wonderful Sons and a Beautiful daughter.

School Story:

Some places that were a big part of my life back then, that are no longer here. Kirk's Drive Inn Cafe, Geneva & Timpview Drive Inns & a couple of old places that fortunately are still here. The Scera Theater and the old seminary building next to it. The old seminary building is where our museum is now located. Great memories.

So sorry Kay. Teresa was a beautiful young lady. I lost one of my sons. I know how hard it is to lose one of your children. Hang in there my dear friend and may our Father in heaven bless and comfort your family.

Pat,
Are you the chairman for our next class reunion? I believe you are. I'm I correct?
I have a thought I would like to share with you

The company I served with in Vietnam has company reunion. We started out having them ever 5 years. As time went on and we got older we started having them closer together. First they were 5 years apart, then 3 years apart and now we have our reunion every other year. Why? Because as we got older we were losing our brothers at a faster rate. Every reunion there was fewer of use. By spacing them closer together we were able to spend time with brothers who wouldn't be with us at later dates. We were able enjoy time with them one last time while the were still with us.

I've noticed over the last 3 weeks we have lost 3 of our class mates. With that in mind, what would you think of moving our class reunion up to next year (2020) and there after having them every 3 years. The chances of having more of us around for future reunions would increase greatly. I've sent out a post to Jackie, our site administrator, asking her to forward my post to all our classmates for their response. I wasn't sure how to send it out myself. I'm computer challenged. I'm not even sure you will get this post. Also I have something here at the museum I'd like you to see. If you have the time, please drop by so I can share it with you. I'm always here on Tuesday & Thursday from 3:00 to 7:00. Hope you and the family are doing well.
Thank You,
Gary

Dear class mates
As most of you know I'm over the docents (Volunteers) here at the Orem Heritage Museum. We are losing many of our volunteers do to old age and church missions. We need help here at the museum. I thought I would first reach out to my classmates to help replace those who we have lost. If you can give us 4 hours a month we could use you. Spouses are welcome too. The museum is in our old seminary building.

It's easy work and enjoyable. You simply set here at the museum, help us keep it open, give tour and answer questions. We will train you and teach you what you need to know. It only takes a couple of hours of training. We have computer, soft coach and chairs for your use. You will enjoy it and have the opportunity to receive free movie and play tickets. You will meet many people some of them could be your old classmates. If any of you have a interest call me at 801-427-6150 or my internet is garyncampbell@gmail.com. Thank you and hope to see you all next year for our 55th reunion.

Speaking about our next reunion Who is heading it up. Do you need help in finding missing classmate? I have a in with a guy who can help us find them at no cost. We used him for our 50th reunion and found a lot of our missing classmate. We can do that again for our 55th if you would like our help. Also if you would like to use the SECRA again for our 55th, I can get the banquet room at no cost. We now have a larger room up stairs completed and ready to use. We have a elevator for those who would need it. The room we used for our 50th would be also available. Five years have past and it's not our 50th so unfortunately I'm sure there will be less of us. I'm sure Sandra can get her caterer a gain. I not trying to step on anyone toes if you have other plans. I just offering my help if want or need. Thank You.

Sandy, I'm 72 years old today. I was born on this date in 1943. I noticed you were born in the same year. I think I may be the first of our classmates to reach that number. I may be the oldest person in our class. Do you know any other classmate born in 43. Hope you are doing well. Hope you have a Happy 9 November.

I turn 72 tomorrow (27Oct). I've often wondered if I'm the oldest in the class of 62. Any other classmate reached that mark yet? Tell me, where has the time gone?

Joan, It was good seeing you and your family today. I hope you enjoyed the tour of our Orem Heritage Museum. I enjoyed showing you around. I hope I did not talk to much. I some times do that when talking about my brothers. I hope to see you at our next reunion. Tell others about our museum. I can give tours anytime day or night just let me know when.
